YEAR 12 So, you're settled into the swing of sixth form. In the future is Christmas and your next proper break. Sadly, that’s not all the future holds: it's creeping up on you like a scary clown. The difference is your future's not a terrifying fourteen-year-old in a mask. Maybe you've already got a career in mind, but you don't know what you need to do to get there. Perhaps you know what subject you love, but don't know what job it can lead to. Either way, take a peek at our friends over at bestCourse4me — it's the closest thing you will find to a career road map.
If you're further down the road and you're already looking at universities, then the choice can be brain-freezing. With over 140 different universities offering thousands of different degrees, it's difficult to know where to start, or what to look for. Remember: every uni is different, and just like you and your mates aren't exactly the same, the right uni won't be the same for both of you either. YEAR 13 The deadline for applications to Oxbridge, medicine, dentistry and veterinary sciences courses was October 15th, so if you missed it, tough treacle. Your only option is to take a gap year and apply next year – might not be so bad anyhow. To double check other upcoming deadlines or application requirements, head on over to UCAS. If you're feeling relieved your deadline isn't for a while, then sorry to burst your bubble. That train is heading down the track like it's jet-powered. The deadline for other 2018 uni applications is January, but we strongly suggest you don't leave it till then. The my-dog-ate-my-application excuse just won't swing. Use half term as your opportunity to get that sucker done and dusted. To help with the dusting, have a look at our personal statement section with a check list, and our top tips to make your statement stand out and cut straight to the good stuff. Just what the admissions team are looking for. If you've decided that you're not going down the uni route, congratulations. Seriously, Push is the first to shout that it's not all about university, but finding your own path towards a career that makes you happy. With that decision made and out of the way, now's the time to be proactive. Whether you've got your heart set on an apprenticeship, a gap year or that dream job, get booked in this month with your careers advisor to check you're not missing any deadlines of your own.
