A History of Careers: This is a very fun, light-hearted session that starts by looking at the history of jobs and careers – how did people throughout history work, why did they do it, and what rewards did they get? This allows students to understand the wide array of choice they have open to them and lays the foundation for raising aspiration and attainment. Highlights of HE: Are your students unsure about whether university & higher education is for them? There are 150 universities in the UK and another 250 degree-providing higher education institutes, overing over 100,000 degrees. Study Skills
Exams are crucial and the grades that students get play a major role in defining the next steps in their lives. In order to allow them the very best chances possible, our study skills sessions are built around a mix of neurology, educational science, and personal anecdotes. Unchain your Brain: The human brain is the most complex thing in the known universe. In this session students learn about their brains, how memories are made, information stored, and the importance of emotions and storytelling in the learning process. This is our most popular study skills session, and a brilliant introduction to studying for any year group. Smarter not Harder: Building on the framework laid out in Unchain your Brain, this session does what it says, and focuses on specific tricks and techniques to let students maximise their effort and the effects of their learning. Thinking about Thinking: This session focuses on Metacognition and is unique in that it doesn’t focus specifically on skills for exams and tests. Instead in this session we explore the common modes of thinking that humans naturally fall into, negative thought patterns that hinder our cognitive abilities, and ways to hone our natural mental abilities. This session is best suited to 6th formers and high-achieving Year 11s. |
Wellbeing
It is no secret that students are facing unprecedented stresses and struggles with their mental health. These sessions, delivered by empathetic and relatable presenters, can help your students develop the skills and the strong, positive mental attitude that will allow them to turn adversity into fuel. Failure For Fuel: Our flagship wellbeing session. Failure is an inevitable fact of life – no matter how hard we try we cannot avoid it completely – and so the question that remains is how are we going to respond to failure? This sessions uses personal examples of failure to illustrate how to reframe our thinking and find positives in even the worst situation. Survive and Thrive: This session revolves around understanding what stress is and how our bodies react to it – moderate and chronic stress are two very things that have very different effects on our bodies. Public Speaking
Oratory - the art of speaking - has been a staple in education for thousands of years. It is no longer on the curriculum for many schools, but in the 21st century, it is a crucial skill. Being able to express oneself clearly and confidently is a necessity for successful interviews, careers, and lives. An Introduction to Public Speaking In this session students are guided through the fundamental principles of storytelling, which is the basis for successful public speaking. Linked to this is understanding of language, body language, and rhetorical tools, knowledge of which can make your students more confident and engaging speakers – a tool that’s invaluable for both professional and personal lives. Public Speaking - Workshop This session covers many of the same principles as our Introduction to Public Speaking, but this is a full-day session for a group of no more than twenty students. As well as covering in-depths the principles and skills of public speaking, this workshop offers each student the chance to present their own pre-prepared session to the group, giving them valuable presenting experience, and feedback from peers and our own professional presenters. |
