Robinson College, Cambridge

Robinson's a bit 'nice legs, shame about the face' – lovely lake and gardens round the back, but a bit of a car park from the front. As so often in life though, the College makes up for pug-ugly features with a nice personality. It’s modern –the newest, in fact – and the only historically mixed-sex place in Cambridge. Anywhere more than five minutes' walk from King’s Parade is a world away in Cambridge, so Robinson, at about 15 minutes brisk stroll, is considered far out, although it does sit helpfully on the University Library’s doorstep and the arts faculties are handily close. Its students aren't the traditional firebrands of King's College or Clare, but there’s a friendly community between the years, who mingle along the bedroom corridors. Most unusually of all, they don’t mind people walking on the grass.
