FREE CAREERS EDUCATION SESSIONS FOR STUDENTS
Are you an NCOP and currently getting your programme of outreach activities together? Push are keen to support all NCOPs in their specific regions, by enhancing your initiatives in any way we can. We’re extremely proud of the impact we’ve had so far on behalf of FORCE Higher, Linc Higher, GROWS and Next Steps South West and we’d love to help as many students across the country as possible - to raise young people's aspirations and inspire them to make the most informed choices for them. If we can do it all collaboratively, that’s a wonderful (and very powerful) thing.
As an example of the impact we've currently had working with NCOPs (and previously, NNCOs) here is a case study...
Push have been honoured to have already supported 1,000s of young people in association with Force Higher, on a host of inspiring and informative careers education presentations and workshops – designed specifically for Year 9-13 students, to help raise their aspirations, help them make an informed post-18 choice (whatever that may be) and encourage pathways into higher education for those students who may not have previously considered it....
Our USP as an NCOP delivery partner is to deliver presentations which grab young people's attention straight away, in a really fun and inspiring setting, and through this approach we are able to engage the least engaged students really hard. This is what we have successfully done (with evidence to show this) at 25 different schools and colleges and this followed on from visits with 45 schools and colleges from when FORCE worked as a NNCO. Over 85% of students across all these sessions rated our sessions 5/5 or 4/5 with over 80% stating that they felt better informed thanks to Push. As we do with all our outreach we get students thinking about (and discussing) what they want from life, what's best for them and how they can get it. Push founder and chief executive Johnny Rich - a higher education and careers specialist - ensures every single part of our framework for students meets Push's five I's (Independent, Impartial, Inspiring, Informative and Informed). We have presenters located across the country, all trained to Push's high standard, who are able to create a engaging and lively atmosphere. Our sessions can last anything from an hour to a whole day - in schools, college or even external HE and careers events.
“Just wanted to thank you for the fantastic workshop you ran for our Year 10 visitors at our HE taster event. The students and staff found your session inspiring, funny, and very thought provoking. You spoke their language and encouraged them to explore more deeply what really matters when making important choices. You helped dispel some of the concerns and general myths around access to higher education, which was great. The content and delivery was exceptional and the best form of careers advice and guidance I have ever seen.”
“We are extremely grateful to Push for their fantastic presentation. The themes of the session, whilst extremely important, would lose power without the polished, engaging and empowering delivery employed by Push. The College at Sirius invites many guests to speak to our cohort, however, there was a general consensus amongst the students that Push were one of the best they have ever seen. The presenter combined humour, anecdotal evidence and conviction to ensure that his presentation was relatable and his message delivered. A fantastic and thought-provoking event”
"I wanted to offer some feedback on our experience of having had the Push group into school to talk to our Year 12 students – they were brilliant. The presenter who came to us on the day was fabulous – and offered our students a really frank and honest account of the options available to them and he had them hooked. We had feedback from staff and students which suggested he (and the Push group information he brought with him) was one of the best tutorial presentations they had received this year. If any funding does become available to allow Push to come back to us PLEASE let me know."
“Normally hate these talks and was dreading it, but it was really good and helpful!” – Year 12 student – Franklin College
“Brilliant. Knew how we were feeling and was relatable” – Year 12 student, Archbishop Sentatmu Academy
“Talk was super engaging and really interesting. Best career talk yet.” – Year 11 student, Winifred Holtby Academy
“I think the way the talk was delivered was much better than a normal, boring talk. It was engaging” – Year 10 student, Goole Academy
“Really engaging, loved it (never normally do) – much clearer on my choices” – Year 10 student, Outwood Academy Foxhills
“Really enjoyed Push, and am thankful for being inspired” – Year 11 student, Frederick Gough School

Our campaign with FORCE allowed us to offer the following four topics to schools covering a range of areas of personal and professional development. This is a model that can be adapted to suit any other NCOPs and their specific needs.
Choosing a uni: An entertaining and informative guide to what to think about when choosing the best uni for you as an individual, covering courses, careers and the wider student experience.
Why go to uni: This presentation puts the purpose of going to university into the wider context of what school-leavers might want from life so they can decide whether it is the right path for them. Also includes elements of choosing the right uni (as above).
Options at 18: Covers all the various pathways open to school-leavers, including getting a job, apprenticeships, school-leaver schemes, training, gap years and university. This is put in the context of developing the skills and experience needed to get where you want in life.
Employability: An introduction to the skills, knowledge, attitude and other ingredients that make you someone employers want. We also talk about how best to develop those skills.
Three reasons why schools and colleges love Push:
1) Ofsted and DfE require schools to deliver impartial and independent careers education for all of your students.
2) Push makes it engaging, funny and independent — shedding light on their options and reinforcing the messages you give to your students.
3) We have a National Careers Award for working with young people and have 25 years experience delivering outreach.
