No longer the Full Monty grimness of its former years, Sheffield is now a student city with a big ole uni to match. The campus is a 15-minute walk (or 5-min skip) from the centre...more detail Sheffield is the academic equivalent of Ricky Hatton and can slug it out in the ring with the big boys without breaking a sweat...more on academic  Entertainment-wise, the city has duckloads of feathers in its cap, with a particularly perky live music scene...more on entertainment Powerful and political, the colossal (and colossally wealthy) Union works hard on representation but also finds time to put on some almighty boom boom powing ents...more on the SU Sports facilities are top medal-winning dollar...more on sports Easy to find, cheap local housing, and the once dated and basic University halls are in the middle of a facelift...more on housing It seems that Sheffield has an officer and a society for almost every minority, which is no bad thing when a shoulder to sniffle on’s all that’s needed...more on welfare

Woohoo: An SU as beefy as Ronaldo's torso
Boohoo: City still a bit grim around the edges

This information is very out of date. My brother has just finished his first year and lived in the new Endcliffe student village. He had a great room and with good social facilities - bar etc, practically on his doorstep! The drab out dated rooms comment is not relevant anymore. The rooms can be pricey but now that I'm looking that seems pretty common in most unis!
