UWE (that’s the University of the West of England on the paperwork and ʻyou-ey’ to its friends) has its heart in Bristol, where it’s divided into four distinctive sites, much like the Crystal Maze. The main campus sits 5 miles north of Bristol city centre, with the others scattered around the town. There's also an agricultural college towards Gloucester and other sites in Bath and Swindon. The University’s a bit fragmented, but Bristol’s a safe, friendly town to congregate in...more detail There’s a slight techie bias, but for the most part UWE's the kind of all-rounder anyone would want on their pub quiz team. Every site has a library and IT rooms, although students quibble that there aren’t enough computers to go round...more on studying Union watering holes are plentiful, but the Escape bars where most flee to. Bristol's clubs, bars, museums, cinemas, theatres and other hotpsots leave no excuse for boredom...more on entertainment The SU has outposts at every site and societies from campaigning to cheerleading (though sadly not one for both)...more on the SU There are four full-time SU officers, a few counsellors and a student rep programme. Financial support is available for those with a low income and for superstar athletes...more on wellbeing and money The uni has a fearsome urge to put one over on its sporty neighbour, Bristol. The biggest problem for UWE athletes is the risk of tripping over massive piles of equipment...more on sports First years are guaranteed accommodation. For everyone else, UWE lends a hand with everything except carrying the boxes...more on housing
